Descended from the former Royal House of Atholl that ruled Scotland during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the clan’s roots lie in Perthshire. The clan fought at the side of Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn in 1314 and supported the Jacobite cuase in the Risings of 1715 and 1745
